From UNESCO-listed towns to fairytale palaces, mountain peaks to magical forests, and beer festivals to Christmas markets; holidays to the Czech Republic have it all.
With a flight duration of just two hours, it's a popular choice for a weekend city break to Prague. But thanks to the wealth of attractions away from the capital city, holidays to the Czech Republic make a discerning choice for a short-haul luxury holiday too.
Renowned for its skyline dotted with hundreds of spires, the capital is best surveyed from the top of Prague Castle, from where you can pinpoint the city's most popular landmarks, and also visit St Vitus Cathedral with its stunning Golden Gate. Elsewhere don't miss the Old Town Square and 600-year-old Charles Bridge, and be sure to make time to amble the cobbled streets, where you'll discover galleries, cafes, boutique shops and microbreweries.
But holidays to the Czech Republic go beyond the capital. Though Prague takes all the headlines, there are other towns and cities to explore...
If you're interested in history then a day trip to Kutná Hora is certainly worth your time; a small town just 70km from Prague famous for its gothic structure: St Barbara's Church. Or head to Ceský Krumlov in South Bohemia, a medieval city filled with gothic architecture and a real walk through history on the banks of the Vltava River. Don't miss a stop at the Castle Ceský Krumlov, set high above this charming city with its renaissance architecture. Then in the spa city of Karlovy Vary in Bohemia you can treat yourself to the curative powers of dozens of hot springs; reportedly the highest concentration of anywhere on the planet.
The natural world plays its part in enticing visitors away from the capital too. Wander the Bohemian Forest National Park of the Šumava mountain range, an exceptionally beautiful part of Europe where primeval pine forests, glacial lakes and peat bogs form part of what is referred to as "the green roof of Europe". Then how about finishing your Czech holiday in Trebonsko, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve where you'll discover a stunning landscape of waterways and a large network of ponds interwoven with kilometres of hiking trails and cycle routes.
Got a head for heights? Then why not walk across the world's longest suspension footbridge? Sky Bridge 721 is 95 metres above a deep mountain valley in Dolní Morava, where you can walk between two Czech mountains on a 721-metre-long suspension bridge.
Whatever your holiday here looks like, be sure to try the Czech food on offer as you travel; like kolaches, a sweet bread filled with jam, poppy seeds or cream cheese found in local bakeries, and the unique and delicious Olomouc cheese.
Then of course there's the Czech Republic's most famous export, pilsner lager. Draught pilsner is made in three different, traditional ways, with Pilsner Urquell cited as the world's first pale lager. The country reportedly has the highest beer consumption per person of anywhere in the world! And as well as tours and tastings at breweries, you can visit Czech wine country in South Moravia for a vineyard tour.
