Hotel information
Twin Farms is the kind of characterful, dreamy retreat that deserves every one of its many international awards. This boutique, adults-only New England hideaway is almost unrivalled with its 19th century heritage, stunning Barnard setting and irresistible interior design.
Surrounded by thick forest that changes its colour throughout the year, before being blanketed in snow come winter, Twin Farms is a postcard-worthy boutique escape that has so much more to it than at first meets the eye.
Take a quick look at this luxury Vermont property and you may think it’s simply a cute, rural farmhouse-style property, situated beside a picturesque pond with only forest for company, and you’d be right. Arrive here however and it soon becomes clear that Twin Farms has been labelled one of the best, most luxurious and unique hotels in New England for very good reason.
That prized waterside location is certainly not to be underestimated, though it’s one enhanced no end by the property itself, which has watched over this beautifully scenic landscape since the late 18th century. Inside Twin Farms is a veritable Vermont sanctuary of roaring fireplaces and cosy sofas covered in thick blankets, bare stone walls, original wooden beams and restored vaulted ceilings. The effect is that of a sophisticated ski lodge, though one with a real sense of history and self-assured class throughout.
The guestrooms feel the same, many with their own fireplace, fun and contemporary artistic touches here and there yet predominantly homely in design, albeit with luxe walk-in rain showers, marble-set bathtubs, a furnished veranda and antique furnishings dotted around both the bedroom and lounge areas.
Twin Farms then comes into its own even further as you explore the grounds and begin planning excursions. Everything you need for biking, canoeing, skiing and snowshoeing, fishing, sledging, ice skating and hiking are all available here, plus badminton, tennis courts and a croquet lawn also onsite. Another highlight is the designer spa and beauty salon with its Japanese furo bath, steam room and organic oil-infused massage treatments, if in need of a little downtime after exploring the great outdoors of New England.
Finally, their award-winning fine dining restaurant is something else, an indulgence of multi-plate tasting menus that change every day. Dishes are prepared to perfection and chefs only use locally grown and reared seasonal produce, backed up by a 15,000-bottle wine cellar and world-class sommelier in-house; just a flavour of what to expect while staying at the exceptional Twin Farms retreat, Vermont.
Room Options
A handful of rooms, suites and standalone cottages make up the accommodation options at Twin Farms, every one of them individually styled, decorated and shaped depending on its location within the main building or floorplan available (if a standalone cabin). Common features include a fireplace, queen or king-size beds, antique furnishings and both a walk-in shower and standalone bathtub to complement the bespoke rustic-chic décor, hand-stencilled murals, artworks and custom-made armchairs. A few more modern extras are also on-hand such as an iPod dock, Wi-Fi, tailormade toiletries from Out of the Woods, and a minibar. The sheer range of room options at Twin Farms in terms of size is definitely worth considering, from 600sq ft in some of the guestrooms to 3,000sq ft in certain cottages, though all are extremely comfortable and come with either garden, forest or courtyard views.
