The magnificent wilderness resort of Tweedsmuir Park Lodge is set on 600 metres of river frontage at the junction of the Atnarko, Talchako and Bella Coola Valleys. For thousands of year the First Nations people used to camp and fish in this exceptional location, the lodge is also known as Stuie, which in the Nuxalk language means 'nice place to rest'.
Tweedsmuir Park Lodge is made up of a main lodge building where guests meet and socialise and nine private timber guest chalets. You can laze on the deck of the main lodge and take in the spectacular surroundings, you may even be lucky enough to see grizzly bears wandering across the expansive lawns. Inside the main lodge you can sit by the river rock fireplace in the large lounge and dining room or play billiards and table games in the sports bar.
The lodge is one of the easiest to access from Vancouver, with no long boat or float-plane transfers required. On arrival at Bella Coola Airport, you take a 45 minute transfer to the lodge and you can be floating down the Atnarko River watching bears within 3 hours of leaving Vancouver. Bear viewing takes place right at the lodge, wander a few minutes to one of the two bear viewing stations where there are no time limit's.
Tweedsmuir Park Lodge prides itself on its wildlife experiences, the highly experienced and knowledgeable guides take you on Grizzly Bear walking tours and track bears through the forest. Drift down the Atnarko River on motor-less boats and watch grizzly bears catch salmon, guests often see 15 - 20 different grizzly bears on a single float trip. Take in the spectacular scenery on a cruise along the fjord and set prawn and crab traps while looking out for orcas and dolphins.
The scenery in this remote part of the world is nothing but spectacular and is a hikers dream. Tweedsmuir Park Lodge offer optional assisted heli-hiking tours in to the Bella Coola Valley, with leisurely walks to strenuous hikes suitable for a variety of fitness levels. Guided and heli-fishing tours can also be arranged as well as flight seeing joyrides over remote forests, canyons and glaciers.
Our Advice
The lodge is open between 15 June to 7 October 2017 and offers 3, 4, 5 and 7 night wildlife packages. From 22 August to 7 October 2017 the emphasis is on grizzly bear viewing. During the early season bear sightings are less frequent but the area is teeming with wildlife. The Rod & Ski Package includes skiing in the morning and salmon fishing in the afternoon between 15 June - 22 August 2017.
