From short valley floor walks to full-day mountain hikes to see wild mountain goats, langur monkeys and the occasional leopard, Paro Valley is also the starting point for many of Bhutan’s all-ability treks. Make the stunning two to three-hour trek past fluttering prayer flags to reach the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery, or horseback ride to a viewing point halfway. Activity seekers should visit Jele Dzong, reached through flower meadows, forests and yak pastures. Next to the lodge, light butter lamps to dispel darkness and take a moment of reflection at the 15th century Samtenling Monastery.
