Hotel information
At Namibia’s Shipwreck Lodge, you’ll find yourself marooned on the evocative sands of the Skeleton Coast, overlooking the ever-imposing Atlantic Ocean in this most untamed of landscapes. The lodge takes its inspiration from the many shipwrecks that have been spat out by the wild ocean over the years, paying homage to the region with 11 standalone cabins that have been designed to resemble those doomed boats. They are built from sand-hued wood and glass, each shaped just like a small vessel with added features to imitate shipwrecks – think wooden ribs sticking up towards the sky and a lopsided look as though they are stuck in the sand.
But this Skeleton Coast lodge is far from wrecked. Ten of the cabins are accommodations with their own en suites, plush beds, hot running water and chic Scandi style throughout. They even have tea and coffee making facilities, daybeds, windows framing the coast, and wood-burning stoves, encouraging you to while away each evening and the following morning in cosy beachfront bliss. However, Shipwreck Lodge isn’t merely a cool design hotel; it’s also a fantastic base for game drives in the Skeleton Coast National Park, with impressive wildlife dwelling here: Elephants, Lions, Zebras and Black Rhinos, to name a few. Aside from animal safaris, guests can go sandboarding and quad biking; tour some of the shipwrecks, or just wander along the beach with a drink in-hand.
The 11th cabin is Shipwreck Lodge’s hub, comprising a restaurant, lounge and terrace with sweeping views of the dunes and sea. This is where all your full-board meals and drinks are served, a space filled with luxe armchairs, throws and chessboards; plus a wood-burning stove thrown in for good measure!
Room Options
The ten cabins at this boutique Namibia lodge are unusual boltholes indeed, mimicking the old boats washed up on the sand that Skeleton Coast is renowned for. They are crafted from light wood – emanating a Scandi-chic look – and are equipped with comfy beds topped with faux-fur throws, daybeds positioned next to the windows (so you can sit with a book in-hand while gazing out over the desolate sands), tea and coffee making facilities, and doors opening out right onto the beach and furnished private decks too. Wood-burning stoves make you want to lock yourselves away and cosy up come evening, while solar power provides heating for the water – the bathroom has a shower, flushing toilet and two brass sinks. Hairdryers are available on request.

Shipwreck Restaurant and Lounge
The minimalist design extends to the Shipwreck’s restaurant, bedecked in blonde wood, wraparound windows, and chairs adorned in hues of navy, grey and white (there’s a distinct maritime theme here). All food is included as part of the Shipwreck Lounge full-board package, and between meals you can drift over to the inviting lounge and terrace for drinks with a sublime ocean view.
