Fly from the UK to Barcelona
Check into Renaissance Barcelona for a three-night stay for the beginning of your Colours of Provence pre-cruise land programme.
Barcelona
A luxury city break in the bustling capital of Catalonia will delight art-lovers, foodies, historians, and culture vultures alike. Stroll the cobblestoned lanes of the Gothic Quarter in the medieval city centre and lively pedestrian boulevard, Las Ramblas. Follow the trail of architect Antoni Gaudi to see his imaginative creations including La Sagrada Familia – a tribute to his enduring Catholic faith.
Exploring Barcelona
Join an excursion to the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat, around 30 miles away from Barcelona. Set high on a mountain, you’ll enjoy unparalleled views of the Catalonia landscape. Inside the monastery, officially founded in 1025, you’ll see the famous Black Madonna sculpture. Exit via the Cami de l'Ave Maria where you can pay homage to the statue by lighting a candle.
Barcelona - Arles - Embarkation
Check out of the hotel and board the TGV high-speed train to Nimes. Then, transfer via bus to Avignon where you’ll board your luxury ship, AmaKristina. Receive a warm welcome onboard and a wine toast to mingle with fellow guests.
Arles
Join a guided walking tour in Arles, considered one of France’s most beautiful cities. Visit its Roman treasures or cycle along the Rhône to the Langlois Bridge, featured numerous times in Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings. Delve further into Van Gogh’s Arles at the Vincent van Gogh Foundation, then head to the medieval hilltop village of Les Baux de Provence. In the evening, enjoy a short cruise to Avignon and admire Pont d’Avignon bridge, beautifully illuminated against the starry night.
Avignon
In the early 1300s, the Provençal town of Avignon was the centre of the Roman Catholic world. So, it’s little surprise it boasts an impressive legacy of ecclesiastical architecture – most notably the Papal Palace and the well-preserved medieval walls surrounding the historic centre of town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Taste regional specialties including macarons, cheese and wine, or enjoy a bike tour. Later, be wowed by Pont du Gard, an impressive Roman aqueduct.
Viviers
Visit the magnificent hilltop village of Grignan then go in search of the highly prized “Black Diamond,” truffle with a farmer and his trained dog in the surrounding countryside. Later, enjoy a delicious pairing of red wine and chocolate at the 15th-century Le Château de Tournon on the peaceful banks of the Rhône.
Tournon
Feel the river breeze brush your skin on the way to Tournon. Disembark and explore vertiginous vineyards, tasting Hermitage wines for which the region is celebrated. Alternatively, take a private train ride past the Gorge du Doux to the charming little station of Colombier le Vieux-Saint Barthélemy le Plain, or hike the vineyards of Tain l’Hermitage.
Vienne - Lyon
Situated between two wine regions, Vienne has a Roman past that can be seen in its marvellously preserved ruins. Explore 2,000 years of history with a walking tour of Saint Maurice Cathedral and St. Pierre Abbey—one of the oldest surviving churches in France. Or enjoy a guided bike tour along the picturesque Rhône River. Cruise to the old town of Lyon to see the famous “traboules” or pick up gourmet delights at the food market.
Lyon – Trevoux
Enjoy leisure time in Lyon or travel to Beaujolais between the Rhône and Burgundy wine regions. Indulge in tastings at a traditional winery, learn about the history of the vineyards and indulge in some of the region’s fine foods.
Lyon – Disembarkation – Paris
Disembark the ship and savour some local Lyon specialties in the capital of gastronomy. Then board your high-speed train to Paris and check into Renaissance Paris for a 3-night stay.
Paris
Enjoy a guided tour of this romantic city, taking in signature sites including the Champs Élysées, the iconic Arc de Triomphe and Eiffel Tower.
Exploring Paris
Enjoy a full day at your leisure. Perhaps visit the world-renowned Louvre Museum or Musée d’Orsay. Go on a spree in the Faubourg Saint-Honoré shopping district or simply relax and spend the day people-watching at a local café. In the evening, visit Montmartre and walk around the rest of the illuminated streets to discover why Paris is renowned as the “City of Light.”
